Outdoor Exercises To Stay Healthy This Summer

By All American Fitness

Summer is the perfect time to take advantage of the outdoors as a place to work out. Try these different outdoor exercises this year in order to stay fit and happy during the warmer months.

YARD WORK

Working in your yard can be a real workout. It has been discovered that your level of exertion is about the same while you rake the lawn as you do during a leisurely bicycle ride, and heavier yard work like stacking wood and cleaning brush can equate to the exercise you get from a light aerobics class. It turns out that 45 minutes of gardening can burn the same amount of calories as 30 minutes of aerobic exercise.

You can add extra elements to your yard work, such as lunges while mowing the lawn, to make it an even more intense workout. Warm up beforehand and do a minimum of 30 minutes of yard work a day in order to make it really count as working out. In an hour of gardening or other yard work, depending on your body type and choice of activity, you can burn 400 calories!

OUTDOOR SPORTS

There are many options for outdoor sports you can do to stay healthy, such as soccer, basketball, tennis, and even golf. Despite the stereotypes surrounding the sport, golfing is a better workout than you might think.

Due to the miles walked during a game of golf, you can get as much cardiovascular exercise from golfing as you would from swimming, biking, or jogging. It’s also great for strength training—golf requires the use of many important muscles because of all the walking, hiking up hills, bending to pick up the ball, and swinging the club. Even lifting the equipment bag works your upper body—it can weigh as much as 35 pounds! Golf also works your balance and strengthens your mind.

Golf can also be a comfortable sport, which makes it a great option for exercising under the summer sun. The traditional gear protects your body. For example, mesh gloves keep your hands cool and dry by improving airflow and breathability.

HIKING

Hiking is an underrated endurance workout. Yes, walking through scenic nature up and down mountains can be relaxing, but it is also a great way to exercise. Hiking in the great outdoors makes participants push themselves physically while still experiencing feelings of pleasure from the adventure, exploration, and beautiful scenery. It has been discovered that hiking outside in nature is more strenuous than a walk on an inclined treadmill, but hikers are less fatigued at the end of the workout than indoor walkers. Get out and hit the trails; just make sure you do a good warmup first.

Get out of the gym this summer and soak up the sun while exercising. Whether you’re doing yard work, playing a sport like golf, or going on a hike, nature is a great place to work out and there are many different options for taking advantage of this.
